The BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) was introduced by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). It mandates that certain electronics and IT products must conform to Indian Standards (IS) and be registered with BIS before being sold in India.
Products under this scheme must carry the BIS CRS Standard Mark (with R-number) as proof of compliance
If you are a manufacturer or importer of electronics or IT products in India, obtaining BIS CRS Certification is not optional—it’s mandatory. At IRPCA , we simplify this complex regulatory requirement with complete end-to-end support for BIS-CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) certification.
We review your product’s specifications and confirm the applicable Indian Standard (IS code) under BIS CRS
We coordinate testing of your product at a BIS-recognized laboratory in India. All test reports are generated as per applicable IS.
We compile and verify all required documents:
Your application is submitted through the CRS portal along with test reports, compliance declarations, and fees.
BIS evaluates the application. Once approved, you receive:
We assist with correct placement of the BIS CRS logo + R-number on packaging and products in accordance with BIS marking guidelines.
BIS-CRS scheme covers a wide array of electronics and IT product categories—approximately 70–76 products. Key examples include:
The product list has been expanded in phases since 2012, with additions in 2012, 2014, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022, and as recent as 2025
The “Standard Mark” must be displayed on the product or packaging or both in a visible, legible, indelible, and non‑removable manner.
E‑labelling (electronic labeling) is permitted for devices with integrally built displays (i.e., where a physical label may be impractical). But even then, the reference to the BIS website must still be marked physically on the product or packaging.
Any change in marking / labeling (layout, design, text) must be approved by BIS. Unauthorized changes may lead to non‑compliance or suspension.
